What Your Marketing is Missing

Jan 27, 2019

So now you have formed a solid marketing strategy to propel you forward in 2020, but something is still keeping you from achieving those goals you set.

Sometimes just putting on paper that you will gain 100 followers a month or have 1000 conversions by March is just not going to make it happen. Here are a few often overlooked aspects to your marketing that might be holding you back if you aren’t following through.

1. Frequency-

How often are you checking your analytics and the performance of your ads? Once a month is not often enough. Every week you should be taking note of how each post is performing. Ask yourself some questions:

-Which ad is the most successful?

-What about this ad is attracting people?

-What medium is this ad reaching people through?

-What’s one thing I could I do to make this even better?

Another frequency issue to check yourself on is; are you even posting enough? The more content you are putting out, the more likely people are to see it.

One major note on frequency: Though more will help get your name out, if you sacrifice quality you may not be attaching a good name to your brand. If you don’t have the time to produce your own quality marketing material, consider hiring someone to take care of it. There are tons of resources to help you find freelance work or if the budget allows hire someone on full time who can take the marketing over entirely. Leaving you to focus on your business!

2. Continuity-

This goes for two aspects of your marketing (1) What you are putting out? and (2) How you are tracking it?

Before you start throwing posts out to the public, you need to sit down and figure out what your branding is and how you want to show that. What fonts will you use? What color palette? What is the feel you are going for; grungy, quirky, elegant? Now make sure that everything you put out has that flavor. If your work is all over the place, people will not know what to associate with you and your company. Now that you are carving out 10 minutes a day to look at your analytics, is how you are reporting and tracking them uniform? By keeping uniform reports you will be able to compare previous analytics to current ones. It will also make your boss or your team a lot happier when they know exactly where to look in order to find “X” statistic.

3. Honesty-

Again this principle can be applied to the work you are putting out, as well as how you are interpreting your data. Anything you create needs to be honest to you. If you do not offer “xyz” do not claim to offer that. If you are offering a promo that has a big caveat, make that clear. People hate being bamboozled by fine print, and you don’t want to be known as the company that scams people. Bringing out the honest nature of your company and showing the true personalities of the people on your team, is also a great way to get people to warm up to you and feel like they exactly who they will be working with.

The same goes for when you are interpreting your analytics for the month. Don’t embellish the facts by making it sound like an ad performed better than it did just to impress the boss. Having an open mindset for failure will ultimately be what teaches you what works and what does not. When an ad doesn’t perform the way you want it to, consider it a lesson learned and make adjustments to avoid the same mistakes next time.
